If you are receiving Social Security you should get a card approximately 2 months before your birth month.
If not, you need to apply for Medicare Part A & B about two months before you turn 65.
Medicare will be effective the first of the month when you are turning 65.
To apply for Medicare Part A & B.
Go to: https://secure.ssa.gov/iClaim/rib
Click on Start a new application.
This is the social security website. At the end it will ask you, if you want to apply for Social Security, you must determine if you want to or not. If not sure, call us we may give you some assistance.
Your Medicare premium is determined each year by the income you made 2 years ago. If you and your spouse had a higher income (over $194,000 in 2021) your premium will be higher (see premiums).
You should not apply for Medicare Part B if you are still working and have credible health insurance. Click here for more info.
